Well, then… Here we are on Day One of KazNo for summer 2013. It’s August 1st. Or, as I prefer to say: 1st August.
We have a nice sized group – about 17 of us in total, so maybe we’ll max out at 20 if people join late. Which is fine. Everyone is welcome. It’s important that I say this for the newer writers among us: there is no competition here AT ALL. We’re just writing together, giving each other encouragement, and checking in once a week to see how we get on over the course of the month. There’s no point in comparing yourself to anyone else because we’re all aiming for different things. Some of you are joining me in my
crazy optimistic goal of 30,000 words, while others are aiming for 10K or 15K. A couple of people will be spending much of August working on outlines and character sketches. We even have a screenwriter here! You just can’t compare apples with oranges. (Well, you can… but I don’t recommend it.)
So, just to summarize, the first rule of KazNo is: No competing.
That’s pretty much the only ‘rule.’ Rules? We don’t need no stinking rules! (Sorry, I’ve been drinking a lot of coffee.)
As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I won’t be doing much writing at all during the first week – but I will still definitely be posting the first check in. I’m going away early next week and I won’t be back online until Friday, 9th August. I think it makes sense to just do our weekly check in on Fridays, so here’s the schedule:
Thurs, 1 August – START!
Fri, 9 August – Check in 1
Fri, 16 August – Check in 2
Fri, 23 August – Check in 3
Sat, 31 August – Final check in
Notice that I shifted the fourth and final check in to Saturday, because that’s just the way I roll!
If you’re struggling at all between any of our gatherings here, please feel free to chat to your fellow participants if they’re on Twitter. I’m @kazmahoney and I’m there… um… too much. It would be a good idea to have a hashtag for our little writing thing, so let’s just go with #kazno2013 – that way everyone else will be sure to see your tweet by searching under the #kazno2013 hashtag. (Do feel free to @ me at any time but, as I said, I will be offline for a few days next week.)
All set? Good! I’ll see you back here on Friday, 9th August.
