So, I’ll be handing in my Hunting the Dark revisions by the end of this month (phew!), which means that August opens up a little. I have many, many projects I want to work on, so what I’d really like to do is make sure I don’t waste all my time just because things in publishing slow waaay down in the summer. I’d love to make some headway on a rough draft of something I’m writing entirely on-spec (i.e. without any kind of a deal or contract).
Even though I’ve slowed down as a writer in the last year or so, I could probably manage more than 30K in a month. If I really push myself… However, I’m going away for a few days early in August, and I have various other commitments already marked down. I have looked long and hard at my calendar and I’ll probably be losing at least 7 days out of the month.
That still leaves 3 weeks. I think a realistic but challenging goal will be to write 30,000 words by the end of August 2013. That means producing about 10K per week.
If you want to join me in my goal – or in a writing goal of your own – let me know in comments and I’ll post a weekly check-in here on the blog. Would love to have you along for the ride to help keep me honest.
