I’ve already read a book this year (yay!) and have just started another.
This is the book I finished and absolutely LOVED:
Almost Perfect – Brian Katcher
Now reading this one (and already enjoying it very much):
For Darkness Shows the Stars – Diana Peterfreund
(Book links go to Goodreads.)
As I noted in my end-of-2012-post, I read close to 60 books last year but a lot of that was non-fiction: books about creativity and also stuff I was specifically reading for research. I’m not sure how many out of the 60 were fiction, but I can’t imagine it was more than 40.
For 2013, I’d love to read 52 novels – one per week. I have no idea if I’ll manage this while also keeping up with the non-fiction I like to read, but I’m going to give it a go. (For this experiment, ‘novels’ can include longer original graphic novels – although not collected ‘trades’ of material that was previous published as monthly comics.)
Maybe I’ll post monthly about my reading, but I won’t be reviewing anything. At the very most, I’ll try ‘Twitter-style reviews’ like I did for My Top 12 Books of 2012.
Other than reading 52 novels this year, I’d specifically like to challenge myself to read more outside my regular/comfort genres. I think I’m quite good when it comes to reading widely, but I could do better. There are things I know I don’t read much of – for example, contemporary YA. I also have a ridiculous number of books at home that I’ve probably owned for years and not gotten around to reading. I’d like to do better on both those fronts, which is why I started with Almost Perfect because it ticked both boxes (contemporary YA, and it had most likely been on my shelf for a couple of years).
Do you have any reading goals for 2013?

Good luck with reaching your reading goals for this year! I’m challenging myself to read 100 books (fiction or non-fiction) this year and I too would like to read more novels outside of my comfort genres (mostly fantasy of all types). I’ve read four books already, so I’m off to a good start. And I’ve just got myself an e-reader, so I hope that’ll push me to read even more this year!
Good luck with your goals! I’ve got a Kindle and that really does help me to read more – especially while traveling, etc.
For Darkness Shows the Stars sounds like a great read. So far I have read 3 books this year, but I’ve had a bad few weeks so I am hoping to read more soon.
Last year I read 213 books of all different genres, so I am unofficially trying to beat it this year, although my only official goal is to make a huge dent in my TBR pile which is getting out of hand.
Wow! 213 books??! That’s amazing.
Yeah, I should really make a dent in my own TBR pile. I need to promise myself to stop buying books for a while…
My goal is to read 50 books, so close to yours. Most of them will probably be ya (urban) fantasy, but I don’t really mind if it’s something else, as long as it’s good!
Might as well go for 52 and make it one per week!
