SpringKazNo: Check-in #3

Sorry I’m a day late posting the weekly update. Hey, at least I managed to reply to all the comments from last weekend. I must be getting better at this… 😉

But I had a busy day yesterday, and finally ran out of time last night. Hopefully people will still check-in for #SpringKazNo either today or early next week. How have you been getting on?

I only have one quote for you this time, but it’s one of my favourites (and applies to revisions/edits as much as it does to first drafts):

Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor, the enemy of the people. It will keep you cramped and insane your whole life, and it is the main obstacle between you and a shitty first draft.
– Anne Lamott

I am a little behind where I want to be with my revisions, but I had to backtrack and write a couple of new chapters. I’m making progress again now, so am hoping to push through to the end over the next week or so.

See you in the comments!

H’mm, I had a good writing day yesterday and took my monthly total to just over 19,000 words. Struggled today though. I know where I’m going with the story-line but for some reason couldn’t quite grasp what exactly I wanted to write today.
My target of 30,000 isn’t looking too good now but we shall see what the next few days bring.

  2. I caught up completely on my freelance work – woooot! Now I just need to catch up on my WIP after focusing so much on freelance catch-up this week…it’s like a see-saw, up-down, up-down!

But it’s definitely been a better writing week, and I even wrote 500 words of something new and unexpected today, just for fun.

Got in as much writing as I did last week. Still, some writing is better than none.

Last week was my most productive! I’m at 5305, I believe. I wrote this pretty random short story in two days which I ended up not liking as much as I thought I would, but it’s so important to get practice with writing something new. I usually just limit myself to my novel and it’s nice to try writing other stuff. Also, this was somewhat of a dystopian story, and I might want to try my hand at that more in the future… 😉

I did not get as much done as I was hoping. I think I only wrote 2 days last week. Maybe it’ll be better this week.

I have hit my “mid-point reversal” and got in about 5,000 words this week.

I had a set-back, though. I had to read The Hunger Games for our mother/daughter book that is Wednesday. Once you start a book like that, you can’t set it down. Plus, when you are not reading it, you are thinking about it. That is NOT helpful with trying to do my own writing!!! And then I feel like I *need* to read the next two books in that series.

One of the downsides to reading a book/series like that is that you start comparing this finished work to your own “blah” drafts and think “mine will never be this good!” 🙁

I would love to finish out this month with 8,000 to 10,000 more words, so I’m hoping for a strong week.

    Good luck to everyone!

This was my best writing week so far ending in over 6,000 words. I did a 1k in 1 hour writing sprint yesterday where I wrote 1,891 in the hour. I didn’t write at all today cause I babysat my nephew and spent the rest of the time recovering from my late night of dancing. I’m hoping for more of the good days next week although I likely won’t get much written tomorrow unless I can get some writing done at work. I’m so close to finishing this zero draft, I can see the end so I’m hoping that I’ll reach that by the 30th. Then come the 1st of May I can start fleshing everything out while writing the first draft.

I found last week really difficult. I’m sort of mid-point in the story and was having a bit of a, “Oh no, is this any good?” moment. Am up to 37477 so can hopefully still hit my goal of 50k this month. We’ll see – eep!

Good luck with the revisions 🙂

Well, my first draft stuff took a bit of a backseat last week… I added a couple of thousand (bringing up to about 11,500), but I had a bit of freelance to do and some rewriting on an old project that had to happen. Hey ho. This week will be better! There’s still time to get to 30,000… Right?!

  10. Jani says:

I’ve managed to hit the target I wanted to by the end of the month, finish paper rewrites, and have now started transferring those notes to my soft copy. I’m totally happy with that and will keep pushing through until the end of the month.

    Well done to everybody.

  11. Last week was better than the week before. I’m now 25% into my first rewrite/revision/reread/whatever thingy on my novel draft and was surprised at how much I liked some of it, especially since it’s the first draft.
I also got 1000 words on a short story WIP written, and it’s turning out fine so far. Writing those new words felt amazing… it made me remember why I love this so much 🙂

  12. Rose says:

I’ve had a good writing week- though I’ve not expected it to be.
Almost 5k, which means I’m 12k this month- only 3k until I complete my goal.
I really can’t believe I’m actually doing it after all this time I’ve not written a word. I think what really helped me was keeping on track with my progress.
Thank you, Karen, for the challenge! And good luck to you and to everyone!

  13. Serena says:

I can not believe how fast this month flew by. Just one more week! It feels like just yesterday I started KazNo. Still, I’m so happy with what I got done 10,300 words!! Yes i’m still 5000 short of my goal but I’m just happy to make it this far, and you never know, I could possibly write 5000 words in 7 days. As long as nothing else comes up (I have totally just jinxed myself)
Good luck on the last week of KazNo 😀

  14. Annabelle H says:

Ah, for the past week or so all i’ve been doing is practising for my driving theory test, which i’ve now passed. Yay! So now I’m back in the game. In the mean time I’ve only written a short story of 2500 words.

I’m setting myself a goal of writing another 10,000 words by the May 1st. Starting today, 13182 is my current amount of words so i’m aiming to get to 23,182 by May 1st. Good luck to anyone else!!!
