Farewell 2011, Greetings 2012!

And so, the end is near… The end of another year I mean, nothing more dramatic than that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I always feel like I should say something Very Important and Meaningful on the blog at times like these, but then I come to sit down and write it… aaand nothing all that full of meaning actually comes out. I think all I really have to say is that I’m full of gratitude. I was just sitting here, fingers poised on the keyboard, staring at the screen, and thinking about how lucky I am that I have people publishing my books and people reading them. That’s pretty amazing and honestly blows my mind. I don’t take enough time to just appreciate it, probably because I’ve been so busy lately, but really that’s no excuse.

So, thank you to everyone who has ever commented on my blog, or talked to me on Twitter, or ‘liked’ something on my Facebook page, or… Well, you get the idea. THANK YOU for reading my words, whether it’s online or in my stories. I hope to bring you more books that you’ll enjoy in 2012.

This year has ended on a bit of a downer with illness and (minor) accidents. I’m on the mend, and really I have nothing to complain about compared to most people who endure real suffering, but it’s been a difficult past couple of months. I am hoping 2012 brings me better health, less careless slips, and a renewed determination to get my work done even when Life isn’t playing ball.

Here’s what I have to look forward to – on the publication front – in 2012:

FebruaryThe Wood Queen (Book 2 of The Iron Witch trilogy)
September Falling to Ash (Book 1 of the Moth series)
OctoberDark Mother Goose e-book charity anthology (my story: ‘One for Sorrow’)

This is the first year that I’ll have TWO books published, plus a short story, and I really find it hard to believe. I am very lucky.

Because of the whole falling-over-on-the-train incident, and various other things, I will no longer be posting for Smugglivus at The Book Smugglers’ blog as previously mentioned, but Ana and Thea have very kindly said that I can write something for them in February when The Wood Queen comes out instead. Yay!

I have a few goals for 2012, but I won’t go on at length here. Mostly I want to write more and write better. I want to figure out how to work smarter. I’d love to be more healthy in my eating habits. I should exercise, I really should. So, nothing particuarly earth shattering there but it’s all important stuff.

In terms of dreams (i.e. things that aren’t in my control), I would very much like to sell an adult book – urban fantasy, probably – or a middle-grade project. I have both of these things bubbling away in the background, but not much time to devote to them right now. I also intend to complete the Sekrit Project I mentioned ages ago, but still can’t talk about because there’s not much point unless I do finish it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I wish everybody a very Happy New Year! I hope 2012 brings you everything you’re working towards, and I hope it’s a year filled with peace, health and happiness.

Here’s one of your regular commenters (well, since summer 2011, at least). I’m really looking forward to reading The Wood Queen…! But at the same time I’m curious about Falling to Ash to. I haven’t read Moth’s story yet and am curious to find out what kind of type she is. I do have my thoughts on her, though!

You’re right, 2011 wasn’t really your year considering health. I wish you a speedy speedy speedy recovery with your leg and hopefully you’ll be tip top fit in 2012!

    Happy New Year, Kaz!
