Tuesday is always a big day for book releases, and here are two that I particularly want to give a shout out to. Full disclosure: I know both of these people, but despite that I do not apologise for pimping their books. So there!
First up, here’s an awesomely dark and delicious YA by my good friend Tessa Gratton:
It’s about “blood, kissing and cemeteries.” Really, that’s all you need to know… right?
I asked Tessa how she felt today, on the release of her debut novel, Blood Magic. Here is what she had to say:
I’d say I’m in denial – obviously, since I just cleaned my kitchen and vacuumed the whole house. But I WAS rocking out to the new Gaga album while doing so… and wearing a pretty dress.
OK, seriously, I’m lightheaded and keep finding myself staring into space like a crazy person.

In other news, my editor at Flux – yes, my actual editor - has his own debut YA novel released today. It’s like… the world’s gone mad! Maybe the Rapture didn’t quite happen, but my editor has a double-life as an author. Crazy times, people:
With Or Without You by Brian Farrey sounds fabulous, and I have a copy on order RIGHT NOW (and no, Brian didn’t tell me to say that):
Eighteen year-old Evan and his best friend Davis get beaten up for being loners. For being gay. For just being themselves. But as rough as things often seem, at least Evan can take comfort in his sweet, sexy boyfriend Erik–whom he’s kept secret from everyone for almost a year.
Then Evan and Davis are recruited to join the Chasers, a fringe crowd that promises them protection and status. Davis is swept up in the excitement, but Evan is caught between his loyalty to Davis and his love for Erik. Evan’s lied to keep his two worlds separate. Now his lies are about to implode…and destroy the very relationships he’s been trying to protect.
Books make me happy. I’m sure they make you happy, too… Go forth, and check ‘em out!

Ooooooh!! ::writes both down::
Thanks for the recs, hon.
Aw, yay! I hope you enjoy them. Tessa’s book is awesome & Brian’s LOOKS awesome. You can’t go wrong.
HAHA, I am LISTENING to Gaga’s new album as I read this post… and I still am. (“You and I.”) I can’t wait to read Blood Magic… That second book looks interesting although I probably won’t get around to reading it… although I love how he chose to write about a gay relationship!
You and your Lady Gaga love…
Blood Magic is a FAB book. I read an early version! SO good.
Haha, yes, I hear the album playing faintly upstairs while my sister takes a shower… I’m not kind of sort of singing along or anything… 0.0
I’ve added it to my TBR pile and will hopefully get around to it sometime in the future. The Demon’s Covenant is very good so far but one of my friends is nagging me to hurry up and finish it — he just read The Demon’s Lexicon and adored it. Too bad I’m a pretty slow reader. (I read very thoroughly…
)
I just deleted everything that I’ve written so far this week — 536 words — because I realized that it wasn’t working out. I’m probably going to have a bad word count by Friday, but this week was rough and that’s okay. My goal is to be able to get this straight and move on. So tonight I’m hopefully gonna try this again…
Don’t forget to keep these updates to the check-in posts, thanks!
Oh, sorry.
It’s hard to resist rambling about my writing but I’ll wait until Friday, hopefully with a reasonable amount of words…
Yeah, makes sense.
Thanks.
Wow, both of these sound great. I’ve had my eye on Blood Magic for quite a while now, but Brian’s sounds fabulous as well. My TBR pile will never get smaller at this rate!
I aim to please. ;P
I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of Blood Magic in my mailbox.
*waits*
Oooh… cool! I’ll be interested to see what you think!
I’ve been wanting to read blood magic for AGES! Now that it’s out, I’m going to get it as soon as I can. ^_^
Yay! I hope you enjoy it!
I can’t wait to read Blood Magic.
Tess writes so beautifully! *sigh*
So do you. Sigh. Wish I did.
I’ll have to check out Blood Magic.
I had my first dance class yesterday. It went well. Im in love with it already!
Ooh both added to my list! I’m always on the look out for good YA!
My TBR pile is fille with erotica and romance. I need some more young adult
