BEDJ #6: thankful thursday (TIW edition)

(BEDJ is my attempt to blog each day of January to celebrate the release of The Iron Witch)

Thank you SO much to everyone who said such lovely things about Agent M selling The Stone Demon to Flux – you all rock! No doubt I won’t be able to resist replying to people individually, but it might have to wait a day or two.

But seriously, the outpouring of support on Twitter and here kinda blew me away. 🙂

More things to be thankful for… Look at these gorgeous photos that Adiba Oemar (who I adore) from Random House Children’s Books ‘Down Under’ sent me. This pile of Australian editions of The Iron Witch will be coming my way soon, which means more giveaways (of course):

And… omg… look at the close-up. LOVE the foil effect on Donna’s tattoos. This is absolutely perfect, and with the addition of the foil to make the iron shimmer the way it’s supposed to, these babies could well be my new favourites (for now *g*):

A couple of other cool things to be thankful for:

You can read the first FOUR chapters of The Iron Witch for FREE on the Figment website. Figment is a great new site aimed at teen readers and writers:

Figment is a community where you can share your writing, connect with other readers, and discover new stories and authors. Whatever you’re into, from sonnets to mysteries, from sci-fi stories to cell phone novels, you can find it all here.

Also, two good friends of mine have said nice things online about the The Little Book That Could (i.e. TIW) lately. I’m pointing them out because they really meant a lot to me, both in different ways:

Writer and blogger Liz De Jager has a great post called Tired of the same old UF heroines? I know I’m biased because she talks about my very own Donna, but I’m grateful all the same. 🙂

And you can also read Chandra Rooney‘s post at the Indigo Teen Blog (official blog of the Canadian bookseller): 10 Titles I Want in 2011. I’m honoured to see TIW included on a list like that, especially in the company of awesome authors like my pal, Caitlin Kittredge. I’m also excited for Chandra to read the FINAL published version as she was one of my very first critique partners/beta readers on this novel.

Finally, this review by a ten-year-old writer actually made me cry. (10 years old!!) I solemnly promise not to link to all reviews–in fact, I’ll probably hardly ever do it (and have switched off Google Alerts in an act of pre-publication self-preservation), but people on Twitter sent me the link and… well… I couldn’t resist. Please read it if you have the chance. It’s so beautifully written and has reminded me of why I write and who I’m writing for.

P.S. Important ‘housekeeping’ notes (mostly for bloggers):

If you’ve sent me an interview or guest blog request and haven’t heard from me, it’s because I’m truly buried under so much Stuff to Do. I’m running late on my own personal deadline for The Wood Queen and, between that and Christmas and being sick in the lead up to Xmas & New Year (not to mention promo things for TIW that absolutely can’t be pushed onto next week), I haven’t been able to catch up. I probably won’t until the middle of next week, so please be patient. Thank you for understanding!

If you have heard from me and already sent me or either of my publicists (US or UK) interview questions, and I haven’t returned them yet, you’re welcome to nudge me via email–as long as you didn’t just send them yesterday.

If there’s anything else I promised you–including an author copy of The Iron Witch when I get them–I’d really appreciate a gentle reminder as I don’t have a list and have just been trying to remember it all. Of course, if you write to me and ‘pretend’ I said I’d send you a copy of the finished book when I actually didn’t, I definitely will remember that. My memory’s not THAT bad. 😉

I love all the different versions that come out with this cover. It’s truly remarkable artwork. The foil definitely makes the tattoos come alive. (Hugs)Indigo

I think the aussie cover is my favorite. The simple green background alows the tattooed arm to stand out more. The font is preferable too.
