BEDM #3: leaving on a train

(BEDM* is my attempt to blog each day of May – just to see if I can.)

Tomorrow, I will be doing one of my favourite things in the world. Actually, two of my favourite things:

1) Travelling on a train.
2) Seeing one of best friends, Tricia Sullivan.

I love train travel. Those 2 hours that I’ll be zooming through the countryside will be utter bliss. I will read. I will look out of the window and dream. I will say, “no thank you” very politely, to the person selling refreshments from the silver cart that almost doesn’t fit through the aisle. And I’ll look forward to the 2-hour return journey later that day.

Before going back home to London, though, I’ll get to spend 5 whole hours with Trish and I cannot wait! Did you know that she has a new book coming out later this year? I read part of it while she was deep in the writing (or was it rewriting?), and let me tell you that this book is going to be AWESOME.

Okay, I have to go now and make the Very Important decision: what books to take with me for the journey? :)

I love traveling on a train! Except on our trains they don’t serve food (reminds me of Harry Potter). Well I know they serve food on overnight/long day trips, but I don’t think they would on a 2 hour one. I’m moving to England :)

Read Girl Overboard =) Lightborn does sound really good. I’m enjoying your blogging everyday and it’s only been 3 days!

PS I hope everything works out with your family. and that you don’t get a migrane on this trip!

I really love that Harry Potter feeling of being on a train. It’s often pretty much like that in England, though the food is strictly non-magical. ;)

Thanks for hanging out with me, Ari. I hope you stick around!

PS. The migraine didn’t hit me this time BEFORE the trip, though I have one today (the day after). Well, not a full migraine, just a headache. So far…

I’ve never been on a real train! But I’m taking the bus to NYC tomorrow (4 hours) & making the same decision about which books to bring.

  3. ThisViewOfMine says:

Oh it is hard picking which book to take when you travel.

I love traveling. I’ve never traveled by train – or plane for that matter -, but they are awsome! I’ve had the chance to see those old steam engine trains at the Henry Ford museum. So cool.

    • Kaz says:

Never been on a train? Really? I suppose I forget that you don’t have so many in the US. It’s such a regular thing in England. :)

I hate travelling by plane, so you’re not missing much.

  4. Rinda says:

Lightborn sounds awesome. Looking forward to that one. :)

    • Kaz says:

Trish is super-talented. If you ever feel like something different – dark science fiction set in the near future, I highly recommend SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME. It was the first of her books I ever read & I loved it.

  5. I’ve never been on a train! I hate planes, I would much rather travel by train, but my country seems to have something against trains. We have trains, just not very many of them, and none of them go places I want.

Have fun! You should take… hmmm I don’t know what you’ve been dying to read lately, but in terms of YA I just finished The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong and it was great, and in terms of adult, go for Lynn Flewelling!

    • Kaz says:

I hate planes, too! Ugh. *shudders* But I’m sad that so many of my US friends haven’t been on a train – they are my favourite form of transport. <3

I need to read the 3rd book in Kelley’s YA series. But I can’t get to that quite yet… I took THE HUNGER GAMES with me. Finally! Can you believe I still haven’t read it? Don’t tell anyone. I’m already 2/3 of the way through and it’s awesome! :)

      • Dude, I NEED the third book in Kelley Armstrong’s series. It just came out, and I’m DYING to order it, except the 40+ books I’ve already bought that I haven’t read are making me super guilty.

Someday I will visit the UK and I will ride a train.

Also, I’m a little sad that I haven’t talked to you in a while. :-P

  6. We took a train to Toronto for our honeymoon, some twenty years ago. It was SOOOO cool and I want to do it again, but we just haven’t had a chance….kids, bills, another kid…LOL

I hope you had fun on your visit and on the train!

I also love travelling by train. It’s so much more relaxing than by car or plane. (ew! a rhyme! i hate rhyming.) I’m so jealous that you and Trish are going to hang out!!! Have a great time!!! :D

  8. Carolin says:

Loooooooove trains. So much. Well, if I have a seat. Hehe. I gets really inspired on them, but also love to just listen to music and watch the landscape pass by. Or read and let myself fall into a beautiful story.

I really love English trains. My friend lives in Staffordshire, and when I fly over, we often take the train into London to catch a show or something. =)

    HAVE FUN!

    • Kaz says:

The ARE inspiring. Something about the movement… the scenery whizzing past your window… *sigh*

Next time you come to England you must meet ME too. :)

  9. Ari says:

Ahh I’m so jealous of that magical feeling. I guess it’s like that here when it’s your first time on the train and you see Chicago coming into view, but other than that, not so special.

I wish you didn’t get such awful headaches =/

Of course I’ll be sticking around, I need more hints about the Iron Witch! haha

PS I liked the photo you shared on the blog. It could be an author’s photo too :)

    • Kaz says:

It really IS a magical feeling. :)

And thanks, my dear, for always staying in touch and for being such a cool presence in my life.
